Mealtimes that include every child: our approach to allergies, dietary and religious needs
At Lili's Early Learning Hoppers Crossing, we believe every child deserves to feel included at the table. That's why our menus are designed to cater for every family — allergies, intolerances, religious dietary needs and cultural preferences — without any child ever feeling singled out.
Here's exactly how we handle dietary and religious requirements at Lili's, how we plan our menus, and how we work with families to make sure mealtimes are safe, nourishing, and warm for everyone.
Why mealtimes matter for little ones
Food is so much more than fuel. For young children, mealtimes are when they learn to try new flavours, sit and chat with their friends, and feel a sense of belonging. A child who feels confident at the table is a child who feels confident in the room.
That's why our fresh, healthy meals are prepared onsite each day, by people who know our children, their needs, and the families behind them.
How we cater to allergies and intolerances
Allergies and intolerances are taken seriously at Lili's. When your child enrols, our team works with you to:
Document every allergy or intolerance on a clear, individual care plan
Train all educators on signs, responses and emergency procedures
Prepare separate meals where required, in dedicated spaces, to prevent cross-contact
Display individual menus and dietary cards in the kitchen and rooms
We also stay in close communication with you as your child grows, because little tummies and tolerances change over time.
How we handle religious and cultural dietary needs
We cater for all dietary requirements, including religious requirements such as halal, vegetarian, and other faith-based preferences. We do this quietly and respectfully, as part of our everyday menu planning — so no child ever feels different at lunchtime.
Our approach is simple:
We chat with you when your child enrols to understand what your family needs
We weave this into our seasonal menu, not as a separate "alternative"
We're always happy to adjust as your needs change
If you'd like to chat with our team about something specific, give us a call on 03 8580 7112 or send through an enquiry — no question is too small.
Mealtimes as a place of community
We see mealtimes as one of the warmest parts of the day. Children sit together, share food, talk about their morning, and learn a little about each other's lives.
This is also where our weekly cultural program comes in. Every Thursday, one of our educators leads an activity from their own background, sometimes including a taste of a favourite food from home. It's a small but meaningful way for the children to celebrate the diversity that makes up their Lili's family.
How we work with your family
Every family is different, and so is every menu. When your child starts at Lili's, we will:
Sit down with you to understand your family's specific needs
Build a care plan together with our cook and educators
Share our weekly menu with you so you always know what's on the table
Check in regularly to keep things safe, fresh, and right for your growing child
We'd love to show you around. Our Mum's and Bubs sessions are a free, fortnightly way to come and meet our team, see the kitchen, and chat about your family's needs over a cup of tea.
